The XO laptop machine “$ 100 laptop” from OLPC
From today you can buy an XO PC, which is the OLPC project’s current model !
The project originally called the “$ 100 laptop”, but was later renamed to “One Laptop Per Child” because the vision to keep it under $ 100 are not met.
Since OLPC started the hype around a super cheap PC, somalle developing countries could afford (or other we could afford to donate to them), who began the wave of research at the various PC manufacturers around the world with the aim of low ultra cheap laptop. Intel had originally with the OLPC project, but sprang from and started their own development but with a slightly different focus developing countries: cheap laptop for classrooms. While no one other than directors are familiar with the background, there are many who believe that the OLPC project in this way was to shoot the entire NETBOOK / mini-note market in time, not least, Asus Eee PC is actually done well selling regularly.
The purpose of the OLPC’s XO-computer is still charity by bringing PCs to the developing world and thus make them competitive in the modern world. Therefore we can not just buy an XO from OLPC, but will donate one to buy one himself. It costs around 2500, – for 2 machines
, One of which therefore donated for the good purpose!
What about the specifications of XO’en? On paper, is at the very first glance nothing to boast of. BUT purpose is completely different than the general Netbook. OLPC’s XO is stable and reliable and with long battery life. The screen is 7.5 “are great, unique, and can both serve as a fairly standard color as well as a black-white monitor with high resolution of 1200 x 900i 200DPI! Super sharp and as one of the few screens as possible to read in direct and strong sunshine. Then you must prove your latest rock climbing or jeep-safari in the desert, it is an XO from OLPC you must ha ‘get in.
Battery life has also had to be good, since the screen for example only uses max 1 Watt, by that I mean when you need to have the backlight turned on and there are no moving parts, which sucks power, such as a standard hard drive .. The whole is much more durable than we usually know, including with plastic in a little less than double thickness.
(Note: If you buy OLPC through my previous links supports you in fact this blog with a few small ears too – and the OLPC you donate is actually no less!
)
