ASUS Equips Its Notebooks, Netbooks, Nettops and Desktop PCs with Exclusive Technologies that Take Windows 7 Further
Enhancements to Notebooks and Eee Series PCs Extend and Improve the Overall Windows 7 Experience
(Red: OK, sounds cool – but remeber that Windows 7 is a bit more heavy than Windows XP was, so it might not just be a plus when were are talking netbooks.)

ASUS, the fastest-growing notebook brand and pioneer of the netbook, today announced that a select group of its notebooks and Eee Series PCs—including the Eee PC™, Eee PC™ Touch, EeeBox PC and EeeTop PC—will feature exclusive enhancements that are designed to extend and improve the overall Windows 7 experience. The applicable ASUS notebooks, which will come installed with 64-bit versions of Windows 7, promise a level of performance and security over and beyond that of notebooks running previous versions of Windows—most notably up to 40%* faster bootups and server-level security with enhanced core protection. Similarly, ASUS’ Eee Series PCs running Windows 7 will boast exclusive features that make them easier to use, faster, more energy efficient and more fun** than identically-spec’ed PCs from other brands—fulfilling ASUS’ promise that “Life is Eeeasy with Windows 7”.
(Red: Yes, Windows / IS easier than XP and especially Windows Vista, AND even though that it might be a tad heavier than Windows XP on you Asus eee PC netbook, I would still recommend it! It’s just simply better to have a modern OS than and old systm like XP taking up the space on your netbbok. And the difference is not that big – so go for Windows 7 on your next netbook, e.g. a Asus Eee Pc with Windows 7 vs. Windows XP.)

All ASUS notebooks installed with Windows 7 will run 64-bit versions of the operating system. (Red: well and by notebooks, they don’t mean netbooks, because they actually run a 32-bit version of Windows 7 on the Asus Eee PC netbooks..) This allows the notebooks to fully utilize the vastly-higher RAM ceiling that 64-bit Windows 7 affords—up to 128GB—dramatically improving their multitasking capabilities and processing speeds. 64-bit Windows 7-equipped ASUS notebooks will boot up up to 40%* faster than competing notebooks, thanks to FastBoot technology which shortens notebook boot times to as low as 30 seconds*. ASUS worked very closely with Microsoft Corp. on performance improvements in Windows 7 on ASUS PCs.

The marriage of Eee Series PCs and Windows 7 is the ultimate expression of the Eee brand’s “Easy, Excellent, Exciting” mantra. Windows 7-equipped Eee Series PCs allow users to enjoy near-instant access to the web and beyond with Fast Bootup Technology. They also feature Eee Docking or Eee Bar, user-friendly shortcut bars that give users direct and intuitive access to applications and web services, as well as ASUS @Vibe which serves as users’ window to a world of web-based multimedia entertainment. Furthermore, ASUS WebStorage gives users additional online storage space, allowing them to easily backup and share their files. With these exclusive usability features, life is truly “Eeeasy” with Windows 7.

Stay Unplugged Longer with the EEE PC

Created specifically for users with increased mobile computing needs, the new Eee PC 900HA combines all the utility of a full sized laptop with the long batter life and compact size of portable laptop with an 8.9-inch screen. It accomplishes this by combining the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine with a state-of-the-art 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor developed specifically with hafnium-infused circuitry to conserve energy leakage. This laptop can last up to five hours away from the wall outlet.

The new Intel Atom processor may have 47 million transistors in every chip, but by using just 2.5 watts of electricity, it draws less than ten percent of what an Intel Core 2 Duo processor uses. This compact weighs in at just 2.5 pounds, but it still features a 160 GB hard drive, integrated webcam, 1 GB of RAM, 54g Wi-Fi capability, USB and SD ports, and a VGA output for plugging into a larger monitor. Does smaller size mean a tiny keyboard? No. The Eee PC 900HA keyboard is just 5% smaller than standard.

The Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system comes installed on every laptop, including Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Mail, and Microsoft Works. Unusually rugged and easy to use in any environment, this model is ideal for students, road warriors, journalists, and business users who need to stay connected at all times.

The 8.9-inch wide TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution (WXGA) is easy to look at and a clear upgrade over past models. The 0.3-megapixel webcam in bezel over the display, combined with the integrated microphone lets you take pictures on the go or have video chats with family, friends, and coworkers from anywhere.

New Eee PC Shell Due to Launch Soon

Reports have surfaced recently that ASUS is getting ready to launch the second generation of its successful Eee PC series netbooks. The Eee PC has been a tremendous hit for ASUS and has established the company in the eyes of the general public as a manufacturer of quality and innovative netbooks and laptops.

Currently, the top of the range Eee PC is the S101 which carries a relatively hefty price tag of $699. While the S101 shares many of its hardware with the less expensive 1000H, its LED-backlit display and sleek design drive up the price significantly. The S101 has been characterized as the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of netbooks but has also received criticism for its short battery life and limited storage space.

ASUS, in an attempt to stay competitive within the oversaturated netbook market, is said to be preparing a follow up to the S101 dubbed the Eee PC Shell. The Shell will reportedly offer a higher degree of portability than the S101, as well as faster hardware, more storage space, and a bigger battery.

Best of all, the Shell will cost at least $100 less than the S101. With companies such as Dell and HP releasing their own lines of netbooks, the Eee PC Shell might just be what ASUS needs to remain competitive in the market segment it essentially created.

The Netbook War

Since Asus introduced the Eee PC to the world, the company has gone from a relatively unknown to the general public computer manufacturer to almost a household name. The netbook turned out to be a huge success for Asus due to its low cost, portability, and ease of use.

This success has not gone unnoticed and most other big-name computer manufacturers, such as Dell and HP, have scrambled to release netbooks of their own in an attempt to grab a pie of the lucrative mini-laptop market.

These companies have for the most part copied Asus’ recipe when it comes to designing their notebooks. This translates to devices that are inexpensive, small enough to be easily portable and feature a choice of either Windows XP or Linux as the operating system.

Dell in particular has followed this winning recipe to create its own line of netbooks called Inspiron Mini. They offer a selection of three models: the smallest one comes with an 8.9” screen, the mid-size model has a 10.1” screen, and the largest one a 12.1”. Dell chose to keep the cost low; the cheapest model costs only $249. Buyers can customize their devices to come with either Windows XP or Ubuntu.

Dell opting for a different distribution of Linux -Asus uses Xandros on its Eee PCs- is one of the key differences between the two competing devices. And in the end, this might be a good thing for Dell considering that a number of users have reported a number of annoyances with the Xandros OS that ships with Eee PCs.
